The&nbsp;<strong>USC&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Keck School of Medicine<\/strong>&nbsp;and the Department of Anesthesiology administer the program. Expert academic and clinical faculty educate nurse anesthesia trainees in the planning, administration, and evaluation of anesthesia and pain management across the lifespan and along the perioperative continuum. The program offers a diverse, rigorous clinical experience supported by academic coursework and leadership development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Admission Requirements<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Professional Practice Experience\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Minimum 1 (ONE)\u00a0<strong>completed<\/strong>\u00a0year of critical care nursing experience\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Applicants must have a minimum of 2 (TWO)\u00a0<strong>completed<\/strong>\u00a0years of critical care experience by the start of the program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The program starts a new cohort every May.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Critical care<\/strong>\u00a0is the\u00a0<em>current and consistent<\/em>\u00a0provision of high-acuity professional registered nursing care to patients with complex pathology who may require mechanical ventilation, vasoactive infusions, and advanced hemodynamic monitoring.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Critical care populations include adult, geriatric, pediatric, and neonatal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stepdown, intermediate, postanesthesia, and emergency department settings do not meet the program\u2019s definition of critical care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>GPA (Undergraduate)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Minimum (undergraduate cumulative) GPA 3.0 (2025 applicant mean GPA = 3.71)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Official Transcripts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Electronic transcripts from ALL postsecondary schools should be sent electronically to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"mailto:etrans@usc.edu\">etrans@usc.edu<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Allow\u00a0<strong>two to four weeks<\/strong>\u00a0for the Graduate Admissions Office to process<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only the learning institution or the clearing house should transmit official transcripts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applicants must submit a copy of the receipt verifying the request for an official transcript\u00a0(upload the document to the supplemental application).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>IMPORTANT:<\/strong>\u00a0Applicants must complete and submit the university application\u00a0<strong>BEFORE<\/strong>\u00a0sending transcripts to\u00a0<strong>USC<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transcripts from outside the U.S. must be received\u00a0by\u00a0<strong>July 31st\u00a0<\/strong>and follow the guidance provided by the USC Graduate Office.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">*For coursework completed outside of the U.S., please follow the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/gradadm.usc.edu\/prospective-international-students\/country-requirements\/\">USC Graduate Admissions Country Requirements<\/a>&nbsp;regarding transcripts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>If paper transcripts are the only available option, applicants must contact the Nurse Anesthesia Program directly.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Applicants must not submit both electronic and paper transcripts. Electronic transcripts are preferred.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Complete the program-specific (supplemental) application (<a href=\"https:\/\/crna.usc.edu\/\">https:\/\/crna.usc.edu\/<\/a><\/strong><strong>)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prerequisites\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Baccalaureate degree in nursing or another discipline \u2014 BSN, BS, or BA<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Graduate degrees are acceptable, e.g., MSN, DNP<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Registered nurse with active licensure in the United States (California licensure is required by March 31st of the matriculation year)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Undergraduate Prerequisites:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>English comprehension or equivalent writing course\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>AP English is accepted, but an upper-division course with a graded writing assignment should be submitted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Anatomy and physiology (1 [ONE] semester each or 1 [ONE] year combined course)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chemistry 2 (TWO) semesters. One semester of general (inorganic) chemistry and one semester of biochemistry or organic chemistry.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Combined courses are acceptable, but TWO semesters are required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Physics (introductory or general) ONE semester, NO lab required<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Biology or microbiology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nursing research course<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All prerequisite work must be completed by March 31st of the enrollment year.\u00a0<strong>Anatomy, physiology, general chemistry, and biochemistry or organic chemistry that are more than 10 years old must be retaken and completed by March 31st of the enrollment year.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Admission offers are contingent on successful completion of all prerequisite coursework.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Advanced standing in the Program of Nurse Anesthesia is not available; however, up to 12 units of transfer credit may be applied to the existing program of study, but is subject to program administration approval and university policy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Official GREs\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Effective January 1, 2024, the GRE is no longer required or considered.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shadow Experience\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1 [ONE] quality shadow experience (no minimum hours required)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applicants may substitute a shadow experience with a quality interview with a CRNA.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Amend the shadow form to reflect that an interview was completed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/keck.usc.edu\/nurse-anesthesia-program\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/70\/2025\/12\/USC-PNA-Shadow-Form_January-2025-Fillable-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Download and complete the shadow verification form<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submit (upload a PDF) the signed verification form with the application<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Letters of Recommendation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three letters of recommendation are required:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One letter from a direct nurse manager, supervisor, or charge nurse<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One letter from an advanced practice clinician (CRNA, NP, MD, or PA)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The applicant\u2019s choice of someone who has evaluated the applicant\u2019s professional practice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All letters must be on letterhead,&nbsp;<strong>signed,<\/strong>&nbsp;and submitted&nbsp;<em>by the reference<\/em>&nbsp;to the secure portal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Statement of Purpose\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete BOTH questions that appear in the supplemental application<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Important: Transcripts and other essential documents can only be indexed to completed university and supplemental applications.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The program reviews&nbsp;<em>completed<\/em>&nbsp;applications. Qualified applicants are invited for an interview in November. Program interviews are limited to approximately 60 qualified applicants, with up to 28 seats. Admission decisions are made after all interviews are completed. The program sends acceptance notifications&nbsp;for conditional admission in early fall.&nbsp;All program prerequisites must be completed by March 31st of the admission year. An alternate list is generated and utilized every year.
