{"id":2179,"date":"2023-10-08T03:38:55","date_gmt":"2023-10-08T03:38:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nursehowie.net\/?p=2179"},"modified":"2023-10-08T03:55:27","modified_gmt":"2023-10-08T03:55:27","slug":"bedside-hyperkalemia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nursehowie.net\/?p=2179","title":{"rendered":"Bedside: Hyperkalemia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>M-Muscle weakness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>U-Urine- oliguria, anuria<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>R-Respiratory distress<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>D-Decreased cardiac contractility<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>E-ECG changes (not really; probably not until >6.6)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>R-Reflexes- hyperreflexia <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Explanation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Muscle Weakness<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This could be from an pH imbalance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Urine<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Note sure the patho on this one<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Respiratory Distress<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Could be from interference of calcium<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cardiac Contractility<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Calcium is needed to trigger the muscle contraction. But too much K could disrupt that<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ECG Changes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You probably won&#8217;t see this until very late, when K is greater than 6.6<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reflexes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Could be dulled.
