      Where does “evidence” come from? Give examples of the different types of evidence found in the health care arena, with strengths and limitations of each. Be sure to cite sources (AMA formatting).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Evidence comes from gathering data through multiple sources. However, some evidence have different levels depending on the quality of data obtained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The following are 3 types of well-known evidence types that are relevant to healthcare:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Systematic review<\/strong> \u2013  strongest level of evidence 1<\/sup> of which to base treatment decisions. However, it has the most stringent criteria<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Meta-analysis<\/strong> \u2013 the summary statistic of the combined data from similar studies 2<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      can also create strong evidence. However, it can be confused with narrative or evidence reviews 2,3<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Randomized control trials<\/strong> \u2013 ensure that study cohorts are similar on demographic or clinical variables at baseline. However, subtypes such as RCT w\/pre & post-test design could be expensive and\/or time-consuming. Especially when it is a blind or double-blinded study 3,4<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n
